Passive Meditation for Sensitivity DevelopmentJust as we have our five physical senses, we have subtle senses with which to gather information about our spiritual reality. These senses are already working for us unconsciously, in our imagination, whether we know it or not. Close your eyes and pretend you are peeling an orange. You can smell it. How? Through the psychic part of yourself, your extended sense of awareness. Psychic is defined as “of the soul.” When we taste, smell, feel, see, and hear in our dreams, we draw upon our non-physical senses to portray the story. Passive meditation is a process designed to stimulate this part of our nature while awake but in an altered state of consciousness. With passive meditation, we activate our spiritual mechanism and then assume a position of receptivity so the non-physical nature can impress personality. It is an important level for sensitivity development. Here we slow the brain-wave activity from beta to alpha or even theta as we withdraw our focus from the outer and refocus upon the inner part of life. We must remember that fears, phobias, old pictures, and associations have also been impressed upon our awareness. All impressions are not valid, and thus we must work to clear our psychological levels of distortions—what I have termed “barriers to be dissolved.” They present challenges on the way to illumination. Specific techniques, along with meditation and other tools of purification, are suggested to eliminate these obstacles, and, as we do, the quality of daily life is greatly enhanced. The potency of through-forms can serve us well; these are the etheric pictures or patterns etched on the mental plane by the active mind that may haunt us or, properly directed, bless us. To realize the value of beneficial thought-forms, see yourself as healthy, happy, and bright. When in doubt, create positive images of yourself. Choose your words carefully and recognize the “goodness” of the food with which you nourish your mind. In this way, we endeavor to create thoughts, feelings, and a body in such alignment to the evolving self that the silence and peace, the light and love, the grace of the self may flow freely in our personal life and as a source of illumination for others. We learn to accept necessary, inevitable pain without undue resistance and without adding to the negativity of such experiences. We strive to accept whatever occurs in a positive, increasingly peaceful manner while practicing non-resistance. We remember, “It is within me and I am within it,” and the Deity and I are One.” |
