Thesis:
Emanuel Swedenborg’s Contributions to Modern Human and Divine Relationships
David W. Minard, M.D., 2005
Abstract
Emanuel Swedenborg, prominent eighteenth century intellect, scientist, and statesman, had two powerful spiritual experiences which transformed him into one of the greatest intuitives, visionaries, and clairvoyants of all times. His mystical experiences exploring the unknown realm of the celestial world promoted a positive and lucid theology. This helped eliminate superstition and fear by shattering the creeds and dogmas of the medieval church. A much needed reformation within Christianity was thus ushered in.
As a visionary, Swedenborg synthesized science with spirituality because he valued the ubiquity of wholeness and the interconnection and relationship of all that exists. He was two hundred years ahead of his time. Swedenborg’s visionary clairvoyance has gained considerable credibility as it is now synchronous with modern progressive Christian theologians and the new physics. In addition, he also gives us a vivid detailed description of what constitutes a good life, life after physical death, and the transition into the spiritual world. Swedenborg’s theology is recommended to all who seek truth and those who suffer from Divine Discontent.
