From the Dean’s Desk…

Rev. Dr. Susan C. HamiltonAccording to the ancient teachings, the purpose of each individual life is to learn and to serve. We are to learn life lessons, skills, and compassion, then we are to use what we have learned in service to others on their journey of discovery and fulfillment of “The Plan.” Sancta Sophia Seminary offers courses to nurture both our individual spiritual growth and our ability to serve God’s higher calling.

The Sancta Sophia Seminary schedule of classes includes our basic, or foundation courses, as well as a number of opportunities for advanced studies and experiences. We seek to support the ongoing growth of students new to Sancta Sophia, as well as those who have followed our courses over the years. To that end, we have several returning teachers and some new faculty to facilitate classes leading to greater self-understanding and evolving consciousness as well as classes which focus on bringing healing to our communities. You’ll also find courses to challenge your theological perspective and expand your astrological awareness. Classes which engage both mind and heart are important to develop love-wisdom, which is the keynote of this new era. We are also happy to present Dean Emeritus, Carol E. Parrish, teaching some special classes.

As the new Dean of Sancta Sophia, I look forward to meeting you on campus and discussing your own path of study. Our Sparrow Hawk Community welcomes you as we sojourn together in these transitioning times. We hope you will be excited about our classes and academic programs and come for a visit soon!

About Rev. Dr. Susan C. Hamilton

Dr. Hamilton has a rich and diverse background of experience that uniquely qualifies her to move Sancta Sophia forward into the future while still retaining the vital essence of the ageless wisdom anchored in its curriculum.

Susan began her formal education with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. After her mother, Dr. Betty Carper, moved to Sparrow Hawk Village, Susan visited the village many times and was guided to begin studies at Sancta Sophia. She was ordained through Light of Christ Community Church in 1992.

Three years later, as a member of the International Council of Community Churches, Rev. Hamilton was called to pastoral ministry by Parkside Community Church – UCC. For fifteen years she has served that congregation with creative worship and educational leadership. Realizing the need to bridge traditional Christianity with interfaith and esoteric perspectives received at Sancta Sophia, she completed a Masters of Divinity at San Francisco Theological Seminary, in 1999. That same year, the United Church of Christ granted her full ministerial standing.

Dedication to enthusiastic, insightful, and dynamic teaching as a means of nurturing a soul’s spiritual journey in life eventually lead Dr. Hamilton to attain a Doctorate of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Reflecting her deep-rooted esoteric interests, her Doctoral dissertation was titled, “Seeking Sophia – Discovering the Holy Feminine.”

Dr. Susan Hamilton began her tenure as Sancta Sophia Dean on February 1, 2011. She and her husband, Rev. Mark Throckmorton, Executive Director of MANALIVE-Sacramento, Inc., live in Sparrow Hawk Village. Dr. Hamilton is committed to working to preserve the esoteric mission of this Wisdom School as it steps into its future of service to humanity.
